Sweet Potato with a Twist

Me and sweet Potato, I Love a nice sweet potato’s now I give you one guess when I fell in love with it

, One Lone Thanksgiving Night when my Mother made sweet potato's for thanksgiving, I remember being 12 or 13 and my mom was sitting on the coach she cooked the potato's and she sat down after slicing them up she took Nutmeg, Ginger Cloves, syrup, Honey, sugar, Butter, Brown sugar and my Dads North Carolina Country Molasses {this is NOT your store bought Molasses this stuff taste Different comes right out the factory in the mason jar} she sprinkled all the potato evenly with each let it set it aside to be cooked later... when they were cooked they were amazing. And I was in love with the sweet flavor. 


Now one of me and my mother's Favorite things to eat was Lemon cake and Lemon Marange Pie. Now why would I go into a story of sweet potato's to story about Lemon cake and Pie, I remember when I was a kid going to the giant Bakery and getting a full mid-range pie, I remember that lemon flagger the twinge of it and sweet and the savory taste of my first slice of lemon cake. 


So, I’m about to give you Four Recipes for Sweet potato and the secret Ingredient Lemons {LEMON!!!, How} 

First, we start with your ingredients

  • Sweet potato's {yams}

  • Nutmeg

  • Ginger

  • Molasses

  • Cinnamon

  • Cloves

  • Brown sugar 

  • Sugar

  • Syrup {my mother loves Kings}

  • Butter 

So you take your potato, you heat them in the microwave, heat for 3 minutes till soft and slice, cube whatever your fancy is, heat your stick of butter put all your seasoning into it with your syrups and once evenly mixed poor it on top. And cook for 15 to 30 minutes when the potates are caramelized and soft let cool



Now you're going to make {SWEET POTATO PIE}

You take your cooked potato and you're going to mash them down, Now I know some like to add Milk {I’m vegan No dairy} mix it in and pour it into your pie crust put it in the oven for the last 15 to 30 minutes {only if you already cooked it}   if you didn’t fully cook the potato’s and mixed this right after microwaving then cook pie for the full 45 minutes.


Take out let it sit on baking rack for 10 minutes or until cool slice and DIG IN

SWEET POTATO CINNAMON BUNS... Told you

First get your doe


Get a Carrot cake batter, I know weird right, a sugar free butter scotch putting already mixed {store bought in stead of oil}add your salt, your water or Sparkling {because of the type of bun you could use ginger ale} 2-1/4 cups warm water (110° to 115°) add a quarter cup of sweet potato mix it in until your dough is the right consistence, 


Take the dough out let it rise for a hour, then roll out, now you're going to spread instead of butter on the dough a layer of the sweet potato filling for pie then sprinkle the same seasoning that you put to cook the sweet potatoes. Over it till covered evenly. {now what about the lemon} you want a twist crumble up a lemon cake slice {WHAT} I know sound line it would taste funny but it’s so good I have to tell the story of how I came to this conclusion. ROLL up the dough, slice your roles out put it in a oven safe container, let it rise again 20 minutes... let it cook for 45 


Icing, get Vanilla cake ice, at confession sugar, molasses and syrup then add your warm water

Drizzle on top and eat {yes a sweet heart attack waiting to happen but you’ll die HAPPY.}

Now seriously if you don’t want it that sweet add NO Extra sugar, all the extras will make it sweet enough. 



Next if that wasn’t bad enough what next 

Lemon and Sweet Potato Cake.

  • You can buy a Lemon cake batter, or make a cake batter

  • Flour 

  • 3 eggs

  • Sugar

  • Salt Baking soda 

  • Milk 

  • Lemon juice 

  • Instead of Water {Minute Made Lemonade}

  • Instead of oil “Lemon custard”


Mix your cake batter

Using the same sweet potato mash, you're going to mix it into the cake batter {WHAT} yes, you're going to swirl it in and the middle and make it a Marble cake.


Pour into your cake pan or tin lemon cake first the sweet potato in the middle second and swirl it together cook the cakes for 45 minutes take it out let cook and Ice 


Take vanilla Frosting add lemon curd mix it in instead of sugar add your molasses cinnamon and syrup mix whip it together tsp should have sweet and tangy taste Ice your cake sprinkle cinnamon on top and DIG IN
